On Friday, October 7th, I left Paris to explore Prague. I got up at an unthinkable hour to catch hour very earlier flight. We got to our gate, and low and behold, saw Bam Margera sitting there with his lady friend. I didn't want to him, so I just creepily stared at him for 45 minutes. Then we went to board, and he was standing right behind us! He hit me with his skateboard, and said "sorry." I nodded. Why did I nod? I have no idea. His lady friend, and himself, did not look to good. Blood shot eyes, that dazed and confused look...They sat next to my friend on the plane, and literally passed out. They didn't even wake up once we landed in Prague. (I later stalked him on Twitter, DUH! He was at Paris Fashion Week)
Everything went smooth once we landed. We took a bus, and then a tram that dropped us off directly infront of our hostel. I then went to go meet up with my cousin, Charles, who just happened to be spending time in Prague. The odds! We chatted in a café, then ventured around Prague for a bit before I had to meet up with some friends, and he had to catch his train for Budapest. We stumbled into Old Town, famous for its 600 year old astronomical clock, and every hour there is a little show for the time change. It is like a giant cuckoo clock, that is started by a sculpture of a skeleton that pulls a string to change the hour. Then creepy human-like statues come out of windows. Then, a real person plays a trumpet at the top of the tower to end the show.
I met up with friends on the famous Charles Bridge, and we headed over to the John Lennon Wall. I love the wall. I love the idea behind it. It began in the 1980s. John Lennon was seen as a hero to the pacifist youth of Central and Easter Europe against the totalitarian era. The wall was a method of expression, a way to defy Communist authority. More than 20 years later, the wall is still changing. People are still making their marks via graffiti. I love it. I love it. I love it.
The rest of the evening we spent walking around Prague, seeing all the amazing architecture, and artwork. It's such a pleasure for the eyes, endless things to see. It was such an awesome city; I want to go back.
Of course, we wanted to see what the nightlife was like, so we headed to this place called, "The Big Lebowski." The kicker? YOU are the one who decides what you want to pay for your drinks. That is some trust. It was a fun little place, but it was mostly a lot of American students studying in Prague. We then decided to check out a club. I was worried I wasn't dressed appropriately, but I was wrong. I guess the Czech like to go to club in sweatpants and converses. If anything, I was overdressed in my jeans, combat boots, and top. They seem to be lagging behind on smoking rules because the entire club was a smoke-filled venue. My lungs and eyes were having some issues. But, it was a fun, different, dance-filled night. A lot different than the swanky clubs in Paris. I love it all the same.
On Saturday, we got up early to enjoy our last full day in Prague. Our first stop was Prague, Castle. We climbed up to the top of the hill, and the views of the city were absolutely breath-taking. Everything is just so beautiful here.
We ventured our way back to the Charles Bridge....
With all the walking we were doing, we needed a second to rest our feet, and relax. We went to Cafe Louvre, famous for their hot chocolate. Prague was a lot colder than Paris, and a lot colder than what I was prepared for, so we all decided to warm up with some delicious hot chocolate. It definitely lived up to its standards!
Exploring the city by foot, we headed back out to the streets of Prague. My favorite part of the city was Old Town Square (with its astronomical clock). It had a New Orleans feel to it, and I love New Orleans.
I still can not get over how funky Prague was, and I want to go back and spend days and days in the museums. We were on a time constraint, so we just explored as much as we could.
Praha, CZ
.love.
